This year, our middle-schoolers have chosen movement - encompassing immigration, women's rights, the gold rush and more - as the theme for their social studies curriculum.

Toddlers are getting their earliest exposure to science and technology through dissecting foods, learning about life cycles in nature and coding using the Bee-Bot robot.

In the Lower Elementary classroom, students have been honing their fine motor skills while learning more about what our earth looks like as a globe and a flat map, and its seven continents and five oceans.

In May, WMS was reaccredited for a seven-year term by the American Montessori Society and the Middle States Association for meeting the highest standards of Montessori education.

The Wilmington Montessori School Board of Directors has approved a plan to join with PRIED Middle School. The result of this combination will be an expanded Wilmington Montessori School, which will educate children from toddler age through the eighth grade, beginning at the start of the 2018-19 school year.

To ensure that Wilmington Montessori School stays at the forefront of educational excellence, the Board of Directors marked its 50th anniversary by embarking on a $3.5 million comprehensive campaign. The campaign, which concluded in August 2016, surpassed our goal, raising more than $4.5 million to help WMS move solidly into the future.

Wilmington Montessori has been named a 2016 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School.

The second initiative of WMS's 2013-16 Strategic Plan reflects our commitment to "advancing and sustaining WMS as a premier and forward-thinking Montessori school." Enhancements to the school's technology and STEAM curricula are key goals for within this initiative. With this in mind, months have been spent developing a technology plan that not only reflects current thinking about technology in education but also honors our Montessori environment and philosophy. We are pleased to announce that implementation of the plan has started.
