WMS mourns the loss of assistant teacher/camp counselor Mark Bomgardner.
The Trustees of the Longwood Foundation have awarded a grant of $300,000 toward our $3.5 million Marie M. Dugan Fund for the Future Comprehensive Campaign - specifically, to support our plans for a school-wide arts integration initiative. The Longwood Foundation has challenged WMS to use this grant as an incentive to raise another $300,000 to match their award.
The second initiative of WMS's 2013-16 Strategic Plan reflects our commitment to "advancing and sustaining WMS as a premier and forward-thinking Montessori school." Enhancements to the school's technology and STEAM curricula are key goals for within this initiative. With this in mind, months have been spent developing a technology plan that not only reflects current thinking about technology in education but also honors our Montessori environment and philosophy. We are pleased to announce that implementation of the plan has started.
Following a nation-wide search, Lisa Lalama became WMS's Head of School on February 1, 2014.
This fall, Upper Elementary students at Wilmington Montessori School led the WMS community in a STEAM service project called DelawareCAN.
Wilmington Montessori School's new blog will serve as a venue for members of the WMS community to share personal stories about the school and Montessori education, as well as interesting articles about related topics.

After placing second in Delaware's state competition, two Wilmington Montessori School teams were invited to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University from May 22 through May 25, 2013.
This Mothers' Day, six teams of eight runners - WMS students, parents, staff and alumni - joined together at the Delaware Marathon Running Festival as the Meerkat Milers. Each eight-member team completed a full marathon (26.2 miles) by running 3.275 miles per person. Children from WMS's 7-9 and 9-12 programs had their own teams, while two teams of parent/teacher "chasers" ran alongside them.
