Dear WMS Families and Friends,

Mark Bomgardner raising camp flag

At Wilmington Montessori School, we are a family, and so it is with deep sadness that I write to you about the loss of one of our own. After several years of battling cancer, Mark Bomgardner passed away yesterday

Mark has been a member of our community for more than 20 years as an assistant teacher and a lead within our camp and extended day programs. He worked with our oldest campers and after-care students and assisted with lunch coverage in Room 17 (Erin and Arlene's 5-7 class) for the past two years. His commitment to this school was unwavering, and even as his health declined, he wanted to be here with his students. He was thrilled to have been able to join our oldest campers for their overnight several weeks ago.

Mark's memory will stay alive in our community through the after-school and camp programs he helped build and also through his former students and campers, many of whom have returned to WMS to serve as camp counselors, carrying on his popular archery program and other camp traditions like the raising of the flag in the Peace Park. Today, campers and staff will raise the camp flag to half-mast and share memories of Mark.

When more information becomes available about arrangements, we will post information on this page. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Our thoughts are with Mark's students, friends and loved ones.
