Welcome to Wilmington Montessori School. As you explore our website and get to know us, you will find many wonderful things about WMS.
For the past 54 years, we have grown to become the unique and vibrant school we are today. We began as a “little red school house” and are now housed on a beautiful 25-acre campus that includes various gardens, outdoor play spaces, a sports field, woods and a stream that runs through the property. Our entire campus is our school, a place where children explore, learn, create and innovate as they are free to ask questions and extend their learning beyond classroom walls.
One of the things that make WMS so special is the relationship between students, teachers and parents. As you explore our website, you will notice many of these connections: the seamless transitions between the school day and Extended Day programs, the school year and Camp Montessori, and the Center for Montessori Advancement, which brings together educators and parents throughout the area to learn more about best practices in the education field and how to bring the Montessori philosophy into the home.
Wilmington Montessori also has a very active parent body. Parents are involved in supporting many of the after-school sports and Odyssey of the Mind teams. We have a strong Parent Cooperative Program that is at the center of all of our activities at WMS.
At WMS you will find all of this and more. We are fully accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Middle States Association (MSA). Our teachers are Montessori certified and active participants in professional development to further their knowledge and implementation of curriculum in all areas. Our alumni are engaged members and leaders in the school communities they join after graduating from WMS; whether it is through participation in plays, sports teams or community service, they take the skills they acquired here and use them as they move on to the next school. They also return to do Eagle Scout projects, help with fundraisers and participate in special events.
Please take some time to explore and schedule a visit. Once you walk through our doors and see what it means to be a part of Wilmington Montessori School, you won’t look back.
