After School Special Programs

Our after school special programs offer many wonderful choices for children. These include the Steel Drum Band, drama, piano, art, intramural sports, Spanish, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts.

For the Whole Family

Our school believes that education is a family concern. Parenting classes and Montessori education classes are made available to parents on a regular basis. Families are invited to participate in many classroom and school wide activities throughout the school year, beginning with a school wide picnic in late August. Holiday programs and special assemblies enable our children to know one another as well as provide opportunities for performance and celebration. Activities which highlight the curriculum, such as Family Night, and celebrate the diversity of our school population, such as the International Children's Day Festival, are a regularly scheduled part of our school program.

Extended Day Care Programs / Childcare

WMS offers care for Wilmington Montessori students of all ages for the hours before and after school. Early Care opens at 7:00 a.m. and late care is open from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. For infants, toddlers and preschoolers, these programs are based in the regular Montessori classrooms, led by experienced staff members who are also part of the children’s school-day staff team.

In the elementary years, programs are led by year-round WMS staff members. Each group is based in a room dedicated to and designed for the needs of older children beyond the classroom day. We provide snacks, organized games and projects, a place to relax, and time and space to run and play. Supervised homework time and assistance is offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30-4:30.

On days on which regular classes are closed (conference days, professional days, spring break, and selected holidays), full-day childcare is available in the same environments in which the extended school day care is based.

After School Sports

The purpose of this WMS program is to provide safe and fun opportunities for students to develop individual and team skills in various sports in a supportive, developmentally appropriate environment that promotes participation and recognizes the inherent value, dignity and talent of each child. Players, coaches and parents represent WMS when attending and/or participating in sporting events and practices. Everyone is expected to display good sportsmanship and a positive winning attitude.

Currently, the program provides 9- to 12-year old students with the opportunity to participate in soccer and basketball in an intramural and interscholastic setting. The teams play other schools, and students learn basic sports skills, teamwork, and sportmanship.

We also offer both a running and a lacrosse club where students explore and practice all variations of the sport, learning techniques and training methods for each. These programs are open to both male and female students.
