Core Classes
Wilmington Montessori School provides children with a nurturing environment that fosters lifelong learning, independent thinking and awareness about the global community.

All program descriptions are meant as guidelines for the emphasis of each program, allowing for flexibility around each child's needs and interests. At WMS, we follow the child and as we get to know the children more, we will customize the program for that group. Our goals remain the same – we encourage independence, problem-solving and a passion for learning.

Technology
Energy, Computer, Infrastructure, Ideas
Through our Technology curriculum, children develop a heightened awareness of technology in the home, school, local, national and global environments. By learning to identify technologies present in the immediate environment, they will use energy, motion, light and hands-on manipulation in order to better understand the world around them.

Art
The Visual Arts should not only be a means of expression, but a means of communicating and problem-solving. Students studying art will solve problems through a visual process and the resulting piece of art. It is critical for the learner to understand the how and why of the process of solving problems and make the connections between problem-solving in the visual arts and other learning arenas such as technology. As the child grows with art, they will learn more techniques for using a variety of media to produce desired effects, and learn and assume more responsibility for the use and care of the materials, their personal work and time management.

French
French is the second most studied foreign language in the world - second only to English. As a Romance language, it shares its roots with English, Spanish, Italian and a long list of others derived from Latin. Teacher Fabienne Daniels whisks students into the colorful world of Francophone culture, geography and, of course, language. Games, songs and beautiful, hands-on materials lead students with delight to advanced activities involving reading and writing, music, literature, dramatic arts and even cooking.

Creative Writing
Creative Writing enhances the communication skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, along with critical thinking. Assignments and activities focus on students' interests, which increases their engagement and facilitates growth in written and oral communication. In Creative Writing, students will keep writer's notebooks to collect ideas and possible writing topics, then experiment with different kinds of writing. Delving into different genres helps students to navigate through the writing process and create their own unique piece of writing. Teacher and peer conferencing remain an important attribute to this process.
