Elementary Program Director
Wilmington Montessori School founded in 1963 on Montessori principles, serving 400 infant, toddler, preschool and elementary children through age 12, seeks a candidate for the administrative position of Elementary Program Director. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced visionary leader to join the leadership team of Wilmington Montessori School.
The successful candidate will have a solid knowledge of child development with an emphasis on the elementary years. This is a multifaceted position. Montessori certification, background in school psychology, knowledge of Mel Levine’s Schools Attuned training, and supervisory experience are assets. The Elementary Program Director supports the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children by managing and coordinating resources and support plans for individual children, observing teachers and children, helping parents to understand the Montessori classroom, and providing staff development and parent workshops.
The candidate will work as a part of an administrative team with the Early Childhood Program Director reporting to the Head of School. The accomplished candidate will demonstrate the following capabilities:
- A proven ability to support parents and teachers in a collaborative learning community based on mutual respect and concern for children
- An understanding of the Montessori Philosophy and its foundation in child development
- An understanding of the unique needs of all children and an ability to work with teachers and parents to support children’s growth in the Montessori classroom
- Strong communication skills to represent the school both internally and to the community at large
- An ability to lead program development providing continuity and congruence in the social, emotional, and cognitive curriculum for children
- An ability to manage multiple priorities

Substitutes
If you enjoy a new experience every day, and enjoy getting to know children and teachers in a wide variety of classrooms (infant through 6th grade) consider becoming a call-in substitute at WMS. You tell us your availability on each day of the week between the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm, and we will call you when opportunities arise within those parameters. Job requirements are good listening skills, willingness to ask questions and to follow the direction of the lead teacher, love and respect for young people, and an interest in learning about the Montessori method of education.
Wilmington Montessori School is accepting ongoing applications for the 2007/2008 School year. A Bachelor’s degree and Montessori Certification or the willingness to obtain Certification is needed.
