The Pandas camp program has a structure similar to our school-year Primary Program and is staffed by several of our year-round assistant teachers supported by other seasonal staff.
Our core curriculum was developed by a veteran WMS Primary lead teacher, and it includes detailed Montessori cultural lessons centered on the natural sciences. The curriculum runs on a three-year cycle so that children will always have a fresh, new focus each year: Geography, Botany and Zoology. Our theme for summer 2017 is botany!
STEAM Programming (New this year!):
Our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics)
Coach Paula Sharpe will work with teachers and campers on Tuesdays in June and July.
We offer group lessons and projects, opportunities for individual and small-group work, on-campus water play, walks in the woods and plenty of time to enjoy our expansive playgrounds. We do not take field trips, but we bring in visiting programs from local museums, nature centers and theater groups. Highly-trained specialists visit each group throughout the summer, working with campers and teachers to strengthen the link between knowledge and imagination, empowering children to turn knowing into doing.
Why choose Camp Montessori for your preschooler?
- Integrated Curriculum: A full-summer theme is divided into weekly units, allowing children to explore a scientific topic through many lenses: art, literature, music, culture, cooking, gardening and thematic games, as well as practice with the practices of traditional scientific inquiry. How does a scientist look at a tiger? How about an artist? A writer? A zookeeper? Active games, water play, all-camp parties and visiting programs round out the summer experience. Our summer 2016 theme is world geography!
- Highly-Trained and Experienced Staff: Camp is led by year-round WMS teachers and certified teachers from other schools, all of whom participate in continuous professional development and are committed to nurturing children in a caring and creative environment. Staff members pay close attention to social dynamics, coaching and supporting children as they learn to resolve conflicts and grow friendships.
- Facilities/Campus: Our beautifully-equipped classrooms are designed to facilitate children’s development of independence, competence and confidence. Expansive playgrounds, a newly renovated gymnasium and acres of natural woodlands provide the perfect background for a program supporting children’s physical, social and intellectual development.
- Flexible Scheduling: 10 one-week sessions; three-day or five-day, half-day (7 a.m. to noon) or full-day; extended care available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Preschoolers may be registered for one to 10 weeks during the summer, and sessions need not be consecutive. Three-day campers may select the days they will attend at the time of registration.
