Wilmington Montessori School's Elementary Program consists of classes separated into two levels: ages 6-9 (first through third grade) and 9-12 (fourth through sixth grade).
Our curriculum supports all children, nurturing their gifts and supporting their challenges, and builds upon a child's early childhood experience as the basis for academic learning.
Our Rigorous Academic Program
Wilmington Montessori School's elementary curriculum incorporates best practices from the most current educational research into tried and true Montessori techniques. The program supports the development of 21st-century skills including the use of integrated technology, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their future.
The program continues to focus on the development of the whole child with an increased emphasis on academics. Mixed-age groupings and the wide range in levels of materials available to the children provide a challenge for the most able student, opportunities for review as needed and the flexibility to support a variety of learning styles. Students may work independently, in pairs or in small groups, as the task requires. This individualized approach is designed to meet each child's academic needs while developing organization and concentration skills. Students are accountable for managing their time and learning to use their time and classroom resources wisely.
