The Center for Montessori Advancement

Welcome to the Center for Montessori Advancement (CMA), Wilmington Montessori School's newest educational initiative.

CMA is dedicated to making Montessori more accessible to children, educators and families through  the adults who teach and the places where children learn.

In harmony with Delaware’s multi-year effort to create a student-centered experience through Vision 2015 and the work of the Early Childhood Council, CMA takes a bold look at public, private and Montessori education in Delaware, marshals the tremendous resources that exist within the state and creates the vision, plan and infrastructure to support the expansion of quality Montessori education in Delaware.

WHY MONTESSORI?  WHY NOW? The Center for Economy and Education notes that the workforce of the future will require skills such as creative and innovative thinking, comfort with ideas and abstraction, as well as a global worldview and vibrant imagination. Research shows that children develop these skills in classrooms designed to promote learning; that provide choice, time for focus and deep study in areas of interest; opportunities to experiment and discover; and a focus on “What did you learn?” rather than “How well did you do?”

A 21
ST CENTURY EDUCATION IS MONTESSORI
.

THE RESULT? Increased access to Montessori learning and a stronger educational experience for more children in Delaware today, expansion of Montessori learning practices throughout the region and continued growth in Delaware’s pool of intellectual capital for the future.

March Workshops - "Nature in the Classroom" and "A Beginner's Look at Executive Functioning"
Wednesday, March 7, 7-9 p.m.

Nature in the Classroom
Cathy Simon-Cord and Elizabeth Varley
Cost - $15

What could be more right than rebuilding the bridge to nature?  How do we actually model this connection to nature for our students?  Participants will see demonstrations of lessons for preschool students, get ideas to bring nature into their classrooms, and discuss books on promoting a lasting love of nature.

A Beginner’s Look at Executive Functioning
Liz Madden
Cost - $15

Executive function is an umbrella term for the brain’s cognitive processes.  This workshop will give an overview of what executive functioning is, its different components, and what it looks like in the elementary classroom. By identifying these different processes, participants will gain a greater understanding of how to identify these skills in children’s learning and how to best support them.
