Teachers

Our teachers are an important reason why the education at Wilmington Montessori School is so special. Each classroom has at least one certified Montessori professional, and many are taught by two certified Montessori teachers. In addition, the infant/toddler, preschool and kindergarten rooms all have trained assistants. Teachers must complete a rigorous training program, which includes coursework in Montessori philosophy, early childhood development or elementary education, and a one-year internship in a Montessori classroom. Additionally, they are, as a group, enthusiastic and dedicated educators who are committed to meeting the needs of each child in their class. Many faculty members and administrators are consultants, workshop leaders and teacher trainers.

Specialists

In addition to the regular classroom teachers, the Wilmington Montessori School faculty includes full-time specialists including a reading resource teacher who works with children on an individual or group basis, and a full-time librarian. Our educational program is further enhanced by special programs in French, music, physical education, computer science, and art. A full-time nurse is available at school to administer medication, assist with first aid, care for children who become sick during the school day, and provide health education to students and their families.
