Wilmington Montessori School 2013-16 Strategic Plan & Core Values

As Wilmington Montessori School’s 2013-16 Strategic Plan comes to a close, we want to share our accomplishments as well as our path forward. Strategic Plan Initiative 1 focuses on developing a child's full potential in partnership with parents. We have accomplished the following:

  • Authentic Montessori age groups: Toddler, Primary (3-6), Lower Elementary (6-9) and Upper Elementary (9-12) programs

  • Our parent communication plan now includes the use of social media for varied audiences. Edmodo allows parents to receive the latest classroom news and photos. Along with on-site parent education programs, webinars allow parents to learn more about topics of interest from the comfort of their homes. We will continue to expand our offerings and learn from WMS parents what serves their needs.

  • We have strengthened our connection to WMS alumni through increased and improved social media, hosting Homecoming in the fall, and establishing an alumni newsletter to be sent out semi-annually. Look for alumni updates in the Wednesday Weekly.

Strategic Plan Initiative 2’s focus is on advancing and sustaining WMS as a premier and forward-thinking Montessori school.

  • Our technology program continues to expand. Through our 1:1 iPad initiative in the 9-12 Program, students have the opportunity to incorporate technology use on a daily basis. Lower Elementary students, using sets of iPads in the classroom, are able to do things such as produce movies, create digital posters and narrate information about a project they are doing to share with others using QR codes. We continue to improve our infrastructure to ensure that it is able to support the increased use of technology on our campus.

  • STEAM education is an integral part of a WMS students’ education at every level. Students of all ages have the opportunity to visit the Maker Studios each week for a lesson incorporating the STEAM disciplines. STEAM is also integrated with the learning in their classrooms. The WMS STEAM Coach works with the classroom teachers to integrate STEAM into the children’s daily experiences.

  • Arts Integration is becoming a reality for our staff and students. WMS met a match from the Longwood Foundation and has begun to make the changes to the building including a new gym floor, lighting and sound improvements and creating a green screen in the new library commons. We have also been able to provide professional development in the arts for many of our faculty allowing them to further lead this initiative.

  • The Marie M. Dugan Campaign for the Future was a huge success. Our supporters have let their voices be heard with a final campaign goal of more than $4 million in donations. Thanks to their generosity we not only have been able to fund the programs in our strategic plan but have also set aside a substantial reserve fund.
