Summer 2017 Programs

Musical Theater Camp

Week 1 (June 19-23)

Showstoppers (ages 8-13)
1 - 4 p.m.

$230
Do you feel the glow of the footlights? This musical theater performance workshop with WMS music teacher Heather Wadler will give campers the opportunity to act, dance, and sing, learning both ensemble and solo/duet pieces in preparation for a showcase at the end of the week. If you love being on stage, singing and performing, or just want to expand your music education, this is for you!

Week 2 (June 26-30)

Field Trip Camp (ages 8-12)
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
$335
We'll hit the road and head to a different destination every day! We'll master a ropes course, bounce in a trampoline park, do hands-on science experiments, create our own art at the art museum, and slide down the water slide during a week of travel and fun.

Week 4 (July 10-14)

Intro to Programming (ages 8-12)
1 - 4 p.m.
$230
Computer coding is an important part of literacy in today’s society, and with the Scratch program, it’s also fun! Created by the M.I.T. Media Labs, Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. Campers will design their own games and projects.

Week 5 (July 17-21)

Intermediate Coding (ages 8-13)
1 - 4 p.m.
$230
This camp is for students who are familiar with Scratch and basic programming concepts and are ready for more! Campers should feel confident in creating a basic maze or race game without help. During this week, students will become familiar with using math operators, various forms of user input and techniques to create blocks. Then we’ll go wireless, transferring the concepts we learned on the laptops to do tablet programming using Hopscotch. Projects can be shared with family and friends when the course is over!

Week 6 (July 24-28)

Archery I (ages 8-12)
1 - 4 p.m.
$230
Designed for campers who have not had archery instruction yet, this beginner-level camp will focus on the basics of target shooting. Campers will learn how to handle equipment safely. We will spend time practicing on the range, explore the history of archery, and crafting our own arrows to take home.

Archery II (ages 9-14)
9 a.m. - noon
$230
Designed for campers who have had at least one archery course (or some archery instruction), this camp will provide new challenges to help campers hone their skills. We’ll shoot targets at greater distances, learn some trick shots and experiment with other types of projectile launchers. Led by veteran camp staffer and WMS alumnus Daniel Potter.

Week 8 (August 7-11)

Advanced Programming (ages 9-14)
9 a.m. - noon
$230
Advanced Programming is for students who are self-driven and enjoy a challenge! Campers should have experience in programming and be confident in their ability to work alone or in a group. This week will introduce campers to typed programming using Arduinos, engineering principles and basic robotics. This is where coding moves out from behind the screen and into 3D!
