Montessori classrooms focus assessment at the classroom level. Reading, writing and math continuums help teachers track children's progress in these areas. Teachers use daily observations and interactions with children supported with classroom embedded assessment tools used across the school community to inform instruction and communicate with parents about children's progress on a regular basis. Conferences are held twice a year and narrative progress reports are prepared in January and at the close of the year.
Beginning in the third grade, students participate annually in Educational Record Bureau (ERB) testing. These results help the school to evaluate the program as a whole, and also provide additional information about individual students' learning needs. For additional information about assessments in the Elementary Program, please contact Assistant Head of School Laurie Orsic.
