2016 Graduation Speech - Alexandra Looney, Class of 2004

Allie Looney - Wilmington Montessori 2016 Graduation SpeakerOn June 10, 2016, Alexandra "Allie" Looney, WMS class of 2004, spoke to the 12 members of the class of 2016 during the annual graduation ceremony.

Allie's Speech (Video):

Congratulations, class of 2016! I know you've all been waiting for this day since you were little kindergartners, toddling around on the carpet, watching all those mysterious "big kids" taking the next big step in their academic careers. And now it's your turn! So I'm going to keep this brief because I also know what's really at stake here today - finally getting your hands on a graduation basket.

I graduated all the way back in 2004, but I still remember how weird it was to leave. Montessori was my whole world, and suddenly, everything was changing; all of my friends were going to different schools - some of them together, others by themselves. The rules of school were going to change dramatically. I was afraid that I was going to accidentally call my new middle school teachers by their first names and get in trouble, and that I would be lost without the amazing community of teachers, families and friends that I had just come from. I was afraid that nobody was going to understand.
